YEHC 2013: Meet the Contestants: Lauren and Lexi

So we being the Young Event Horse Challenge 2013!  (Hereinafter referred to as YEHC.)  The basic premise is this…  We paired seven young horses of ages 2yo or 3yo with seven talented young event riders.  The goal?  Take an unbroken baby from the field, develop a bond and a partnership with it, and break it to ride in 60 days.  But don’t stop there…. Because this is a CHALLENGE after all!  Contestants will demonstrate in August what they have been able to teach their baby and a panel of judges will vote on winners!  But in reality, everyone is a winner in this competition, as these talented young riders learn (with guidance) to train a young horse from the ground up… And the young horses are ready to begin their careers.   WIN WIN WIN.

So let’s introduce you to the contestants!

Lauren:    Lauren is a college student at Georgetown College and originally hails from Illinois.   She is currently eventing her own OTTB Tigger at the training level,  including a past completion at the Training Level Three Day at Midsouth Team Challenge in 2012.   (Photo at left:  Lauren eventing her own “Tigger” in Aiken SC, 2013.)

lexi1Lexi:    Lexi is one of our second generation homebreds at Team CEO Eventing!  She is a 3yo Old/TB/Trakehner bay mare by Nightfall out of Sweet Adelaide.   Her sire is a winning event horse who is sired by Olympic event horse Windfall and out of our own Intermediate Level eventer Hail to the Chief.   Her dam is Sweet Adelaide, a fantastic 17h Oldenburg/TB mare who competed in the hunters and dressage before joining our breeding program.  Her photo at left is from her time here as a foal.

Good luck to Lauren and Lexi!

Stay tuned tomorrow for yet another introduction to the next of our fabulous young riders!
