YEHC 2013: Meet the Contestants: Nicole and Bling

So we being the Young Event Horse Challenge 2013!  (Hereinafter referred to as YEHC.)  The basic premise is this…  We paired seven young horses of ages 2yo or 3yo with seven talented young event riders.  The goal?  Take an unbroken baby from the field, develop a bond and a partnership with it, and break it to ride in 60 days.  But don’t stop there…. Because this is a CHALLENGE after all!  Contestants will demonstrate in August what they have been able to teach their baby and a panel of judges will vote on winners!  But in reality, everyone is a winner in this competition, as these talented young riders learn (with guidance) to train a young horse from the ground up… And the young horses are ready to begin their careers.   WIN WIN WIN.

So let’s introduce you to the contestants!

q_sj_pf2013 Nicole:    Nicole graduated from Michigan State in 2010 with degrees in Psychology and Criminal Justice, where she also played polo for five years.   She worked successfully for Lane’s End before returning to graduate school last year.  Nicole joined Team CEO Eventing in 2010 after her successful polo career… One outing in eventing and she was hooked!  She currently competes her OTTB Curiosity in eventing.     (Photo at left:  Nicole eventing her own “Curiosity”, 2013.)

Bling:    Bling is one of our second generation hombreds at Team CEO Eventing!  He is out of the fantastic TB mare Kate, who produced this cross for us for three consecutive years… Each of which we are thrilled with!!  Bling’s full brother Mo was a successful competitor in the YEHC in 2012.   Bling is sired by Nightfall, a winning event horse in his own right who is by Olympic eventer Windfall out of NAYRC eventer Hail to the Chief.   Some serious eventing bloodlines!   On top of those bloodlines, Bling has an outstanding disposition and really aims to please.   We named him bling because most of our foals are solid bay… He has a sock and a blaze, so that was a LOT of color for us!   (Photo at left is of Bling as a foal.)

Good luck to Nicole and Bling!

Stay tuned tomorrow for yet another introduction to the next of our fabulous young riders!
