YEHC 2013: Meet the Contestants… Andrea and Mini

So we being the Young Event Horse Challenge 2013!  (Hereinafter referred to as YEHC.)  The basic premise is this…  We paired seven young horses of ages 2yo or 3yo with seven talented young event riders.  The goal?  Take an unbroken baby from the field, develop a bond and a partnership with it, and break it to ride in 60 days.  But don’t stop there…. Because this is a CHALLENGE after all!  Contestants will demonstrate in August what they’ve been able to teach their baby and a panel of judges will vote on winners!  But in reality, everyone is a winner in this competition, as these talented young riders learn (with guidance) to train a young horse from the ground up… And the young horses are ready to begin their careers.   WIN WIN WIN.

So let’s introduce you to the contestants!

Andrea Johnson...  Originally hailing from her home state of Minnesota, Andrea Johnson came to Team CEO Eventing to be a working student in 2010.  She has since become an incredible team player here at our farm, working her way up to the position of Barn Manager.   In that short time, she has developed two preliminary level event horses (both owned by our farm), La Bien Vie and Wapentake, as well as her own Pinot Grigio through the training level.   Andrea is a veteran of this competition having completed it in 2012 with Rose.   (Photo shown is with 4yo project Rose at the completion of the 2012 Young Event Horse Challenge…  What a difference 60 days can make!!)

Mini…     What an exceptional young horse!  Carefully bred and raised by Maplecrest Farm.  and Grand Prix rider Reese Koffler Stanfield.   This outstanding 3yo Dutch Warmblood is out of the Grand Prix dressage mare Jamaica, by the Grand Prix dressage stallion Rouseau…   Dressage breeding doesn’t get much better than that.    Mini is a lovely mover with a friendly disposition and three fantastic gaits.   Andrea is very excited to get working on this lovely lady, who will also be offered for sale at the completion of the competition.   (Photo at left is of Andrea and her project Mini at the start of the challenge!)

Stay tuned tomorrow to meet the next contestant in the 2013 Team CEO Eventing Young Event Horse Challenge!
