On Wedensday, Andrea and I set off for Aiken SC with 8 horses and over 100′ of horse trailers down the highway…. After first changing a tire via flashlight! Must have picked up something on our horse shopping trip for a client the day before, because we walked out of the house and *VOILA*…. Flat tire to start the day! Fortunately, that was the biggest problem we encountered.
Andrea was a star to drive the four horse trailer south, and I had the maiden voyage of the 6 horse. With an 18 hour road trip last week to get the trailer, a 13 hour road trip on Monday to horse shop with a client, the 9 hours to Aiken looked pretty easy! The horses all shipped really well and arrived happily.
We have our own private farm this winter, which is paradise. The horses have LOTS of turnout, and are enjoying the sunshine! Today was our first full day in the south, and temperatures soared to 76 degrees! We worked on the farm all day, and took the big boys for a trot around the property at dusk.
Tomorrow begins our routine… The horses will be hard at work, with XC opportunities around every corner. We’re so excited to take the youngsters out to Hitchcock woods soon, and hopefully we’ll return home with some grown up horses!
While we’re only down here for a short time, we’re so lucky to have a wonderful (and big) crew of the most stellar people you could ever wish for at home. They are WONDERFUL!! Thank you so much to each and every one. Most of all, thanks to my incredible clients who are so patient while I take a few days to go focus on Hopper for 2012! We also have some great clients who have sent horses with us, so we’ll be working hard to make them proud!
We are tired and road-worn, but excited to start the season… Stay tuned for lots of updates!!
