Hunter/Jumper Show on January 16

Our first show of the year is well under way!   I love taking young horses out to hunter/jumper shows at the beginning of the year to gain valuable experience for them….  The working students and I had a great time taking four horses to the Lakeside Arena Hunter Jumper Show this weekend.   The turnout was TERRIFIC, and the classes were very full with many, many very nice horses.    Competition was stiff!

WS Andrea took her shire cross mare, Mattie.    They were terrific, with just one rail all day.   Mattie was notably quiet and easy going at her first indoor show.   This was also Andrea’s second HJ show ever!    The pair finished in 5th and 6th respectively in the 2′ Jumper division classes.   Mattie is a very quiet mare and not exactly a speed demon for the jumpers, but I was so pleased with how steady and quiet she was in the show atmosphere, and how carefully she jumped!

WS Jenny had her pick of horses for the weekend, and she chose her favorite pony Pesto, of course!   The 14h paint wonder is a tiny, quick little thing, but is a wonderfully reliable jumper with the craziest front end…. She is SO careful!   They were terrific all day, without gathering a single jump fault all day (in seven rounds!)   They were 5th in the Gambler’s Choice, a class that measures how many fences you can jump in 45 seconds.   Each fence amassed 25 or 50 points, with a 100 point bonus for clearing the 3′ bonus skinny at the end.    Pesto scored an incredible 525 points, and placed a terrific 5th place out of perhaps 15 horses in the class.   They also finished a great 3rd and 6th in the 3′ Jumper division classes!

WS Ali catch-rode our wonderful sales horse, Valor.    He was so terrific!  They were both stars.    The 3’3″  division was VERY competitive, with many nice horses and riders.   They placed 3rd of 15 in the Gamblers Choice with 575 points.  In the 3’3″ division, they were brilliant and finished 2nd in both classes, beaten only by 1 horse all day.   They jumped clean round after clean round, and made some incredibly amazing inside turns while jumping the fences steadily and nicely…. They out-turned everyone!   Amazing.

Megan rode her 5yo TB Expedition.  He was a very good boy.   He placed 2nd and 3rd in the 3′ jumper divisions, with all clean rounds in these classes and jumpoffs!  He is young and learning, and we were so pleased with his maturity as each round progressed.

At the end of the day, Ali and Valor were named RESERVE CHAMPION in the 3’3″ Jumpers!

Megan and Expedition were named CHAMPION in the 3′  Jumpers!

Congrats to everyone…. You were terrific!

Whoo hooo, what a great start to the season. The pocket rocket is jumping in 3′ classes? Holy smokes – bet you were sweating the competition!
